HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA

Israel’s champion, Dani Fridman, failed to hit the score and didn’t qualify to Rio. He missed by only one place, having finished 10th in the world championships, where the best 9 qualified. But his astonishing drive, optimism and ambitiousness only grew stronger. He vowed to race all the way to Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and promptly demonstrated his unbent spirit, by making history: his possibly best ever rowing performance won him the ticket to the Henley Royal Regatta Finals – the 1st Israeli athlete to have ever reached this high!

This was in a one of kind cooperation with his bitter rival and good friend, Slovenia Champion, Gasper Fistravec. Click to read more in the Jerusalem Post.

YOUTH AT RISK

The Sea of Friends program has concluded yet another astonishing year, serving youth of difficult backgrounds and special needs.

Amongst the participants:  Arab and Jewish mixed groups from Jaffa, Juveniles with mental disorders from Bnei Brak (Ultra-Orthodox), and several groups of kids, ages 9-18, from rough neighbourhoods of southern Tel Aviv. Read more about the program in the attached PDF – Rationale.

AUTISTIC ROWERS

How can rowing serve to improve the lives of low-function autistic individuals?

The DRC is now exploring, and has launched a new program for autistic kids, providing rowing lessons with a unique supporting touch.

The first steps are incredibly promising, but a long learning process for DRC staff is still ahead. We’ll keep you posted.
